Zig Ziglar - Encouragement

Start your child's day with love and encouragement and end the day the same way.

You already have every characteristic necessary for success if you recognize, claim, develop and use them .

You cannot make it as wandering generality. you must become a meaningful specific.

The best way to raise positive children in a negative world is to have positive parents who love them unconditionally and serve as excellent role models.

You will make a lousy anybody else, but you will be the best"you" can lead someone else.

When someone we love is having difficulty and is giving us a bad time, it's better to explore the cause than to criticize the action.

Take time to be quiet.

Obstacles are the things we see when we take our eyes off our goals.

The best thing a parent can do for a child his to love his or her spouse.

Your mate doesn't live by bread alone; he or she needs to be "buttered up" from time to time .

Other people and things can stop you temporarily. You're the only one who can do it permanently.

Zig Ziglar - Attitude

Positive thinking will let you use the abilities, training and experience you have.

Positive thinking won't let you do anything but it will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.

We all need a daily check up from the neck up to avoid stinkin 'thinkin' which ultimately leads to hardening of the attitudes.

I'ts not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life ;it is how you handle what happens to you.

You cannot tailor make the situations in life, but you can tailor make the attitudes to fit those situations before they arise.

Of all the "attitudes" we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing.

When you choose to be pleasant and positive in the way you treat others, you have also chosen, in most cases, how you are going to be treated others.

You can disagree without being disagreeable.

I've go to say "no" to the good say "yes" to the best.

To respond is positive, to react is negative.

Zig Ziglar - Ambition

Your business is never really good or bad "out there" your business is either good or bad right between your own two ears.

The real oppurtunity for success lies within the person and not in the job .

It is easy to get to the top after you get through the crowd at the bottom .

Success is not a destination, it's a journey .

The most practical, beautiful, workable philosophy in the world won't work - if you won't.

Motivation is the fuel, necessary to keep the human engine running.

Discipline yourself to do the things you need to do the things you need to do when you need to them, and the day will come when you will be able to do the things you want to do them!

What you get by reaching your destination is not nearly as important as what you will become by reaching your destination.

MOtivating gets you going and habit gets you there . Make motivating a habit and you will get there more quickly and have more fun on the trip.

The basic goal-reaching principle is to understand that you go as far as you can see, and when you get there you will be able to see farther.

You are the only one who can use your ability. It is an awesome responsibility.

Ambition, fueled by compassion, wisdom and integrity, is a powerful force for good that will turn the wheels of industry and open the doors of oppurtunity for you and countless others.

If we don't start,it's certain we can't arrive.

Obviously, there is little you can learn from doing nothing.

Bringing Us Closer in an Internet Driven World

"It's a small world, and getting smaller all the time." Just last week that saying rang true for me. I received an e-mail thanking us for launching the Encourage Our Military program (more on this program later). It came from LCDR Dana Caswell of the United States Coast Guard. When I responded to LCDR Caswell thanking him for taking the time to write to us and for serving our country for the past 28 years, I informed him that I too served in the United States Coast Guard in the early 1980's. As it turns out his ship, the USCGC Hamilton was moored next to the ship I was stationed on, the USCGC Chase in Boston, MA. Our small world had just gotten smaller; LCDR Caswell and I were in Boston at the same time back in the early 1980's.

In Hollywood, writers like to pretend we can be almost anywhere at anytime. Like the instant transportation found in the recent movie Jumper, and the "Beam Me Up Scotty" futuristic technology made famous in Star Trek. The closest thing we have in reality to that idea is the Internet. E-mail, Web Cams, Webinars, Web Conferencing, and Mobile Devices allow us to instantly transport our ideas, thoughts, and feelings without leaving the comfort of our home or office.

With that idea in mind, we wondered if we could make Zig's world of motivation and inspiration easier to access for those far from home serving our country. I am so proud of our initiative at Ziglar called Encourage Our Military. This program truly represents Zig's philosophy of having everything that you want in this life if we will just help enough other people get what they want. If you haven't heard about this yet please check it out at www.ziglar.com/vault and find out how you can personally help 15 military personnel receive Zig's words of hope and encouragement as they defend our nation and our freedom!

Regardless of your political position or feelings about the war, the men and women fighting the fight are our family, our friends, our neighbors, our brothers and sisters, and our moms and dads. Zig has helped inspire our troops for decades and now with the power of technology and the Internet, together we can make this small world even smaller.

You can help make a difference in the lives of our military personnel by signing yourself up for the Ziglar Vault. For every person that becomes a member of the Ziglar Vault community, we will provide 24/7 access to all of Zig's material to 15 military personnel. You can make the world smaller by supporting our troops anywhere in the world as they continue to support you and your families each and every day.

What Do You Sell?

"Selling is not something you do to a customer it is something you do with a customer." – Zig Ziglar

Being a part of Ziglar gives us the opportunity to represent an incredible brand. Many of you are blessed to represent an amazing brand, too. Because of Zig's reputation and our well known brand, people often think that our sales team must have it easy when selling our products and services, or engaging new prospects. Let's face it, most people know who Zig Ziglar is; however, once we get past the pleasantries and the prospect shares their own Zig memories and stories, then the real selling begins. This is the point where the prospect asks that all important question, "So, what are you selling?"

So let me ask you, "What are you selling?"

You may be thinking to yourself, "Well I don't sell anything; I am not in sales." Let me remind you that everybody sells! If you have children, they have sold you on why they need to have a sleepover or why they need the latest Play Station or XBox games. Ladies, if you are married or have a boyfriend they have sold you on why they need to play golf this weekend or why they need that new fishing boat. And men, if you are married or have a girlfriend they have sold you, at one time or another, on why you need new furniture, a vacation, or tickets to the ballet. You see, we all sell somebody something at one time or another.

So again, let me ask you, "What are you selling?"

If you focus only on what is in it for you, you have already lost. If you focus on the features and functions of what you are selling, you have still lost. Only when you focus on the needs of the person to whom you are selling and the benefits that they will receive from the purchase will you have a chance of winning. Becoming needs and benefits focused will help you in all forms of selling as well as communicating. When people realize that you actually care about them, you will strengthen your relationships– and that is the third leg of the stool. Needs, benefits, and relationships are key, regardless of what you sell.

It has been said that people don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care. This is true of any personal or professional situation you can imagine yourself in. Adopt this as an attitude and a philosophy, and not a tactic, and you will probably never have to answer the question of, "What do you sell?" again.

"You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want." - Zig Ziglar

So it doesn't matter if sales is your profession or not, we all sell. It doesn't matter if you are a mom, dad, husband, wife, employer, employee, or friend– place the focus on the other person and watch how all areas of your life improve and grow!

Zig Ziglar - biography

Zig Ziglar was born to John Silas and Lila Ziglar in Coffee County, Alabama as the tenth of twelve children. When he was four years old, his father accepted a management position at a Mississippi farm and his family moved to Yazoo City, Mississippi, where Zig Ziglar spent most of his childhood. In 1932, his father died of a stroke (and his younger sister died two days later), leaving his mother to raise the remaining eleven children alone.

Ziglar served in the Navy during World War II. He was in the Navy V-12 Navy College Training Program, attending the University of South Carolina.

He later worked as a salesman in a succession of companies, during which time his sales skills improved and his interest in motivational speaking grew. In 1968, Ziglar became a vice president and training director for the Automotive Performance company, and moved to Dallas, Texas, where he still lives today. In 1970, he went into the business of motivational speaking full-time.

DENIS WAITLEY - Article

Every office conference, lunch, exercise, and recreation room should be filled with personal enrichment materials including videos, audios, books, magazines, newsletters, software, TV and internet programming.

Convert a special area of your home into a learning center, especially if you have children. The trend globally is to combine a coffee house like Starbucks, with bookstores like Barnes and Noble, to create a relaxing learning environment. In the twenty-first century, gaining knowledge will blend into our lives as part of our leisure time. There are several ways to create more of an ongoing learning environment at your place of business. Many companies are providing TV and internet access to personal development programming, asking employees to volunteer to read a specific trade or business magazine and clip or scan articles relevant to the organization. Regular email dispersals are also highly popular.

In today's fast-forward, knowledge-based world, if you're not moving ahead you are falling behind.

Action Idea: Make two files in your computer: one for personal development and one for professional development. Download MP3 files, articles and emails that educate and inspire you in these files. You also can scan articles from magazines into these files. Look at these files at least once per week.

Also subscribe to internet based or TV based personal development programming, purchase CDs, DVDs and books for your personal and professional development library.

Dennis Waitley Quotes

The winners in life think constantly in terms of I can, I will, and I am. Losers, on the other hand, concentrate their waking thoughts on what they should have or would have done, or what they can't do.

Love Your Job for 30 Days

For the next 30 days,go all out on your current job. Whatever you have chosen as you life's work, remember your job couldn't care less about you one way of the other — only you can take the initiative to give your job what it has deserved all along. Dedicate yourself just for one month, not for a lifetime, to giving your maximum effort to your job, your company, your routine and your service to others. At the end of that time, I think you'll find yourself renewing your dedication for another month.

~Dr. Dennis Waitley, The Psychology of Winning

Too many of us go each day to jobs we are bored with or hate. Our jobs drain our energy and give us little reward for our efforts. We're underemployed, overworked, and understimulated. It's obvious that it's time for a change.

But leaving isn't always a good option. We stay in positions that aren't ideal for a million reasons. Some of us stay because of unusually high income, some for much-needed health insurance, and some because the economy has limited our ability to move. Others stay because their current jobs fit neatly into the rest of their lives. You know what? All those reasons are good ones.

If you're going to stay, you might as well make the best of it. What would happen if for one month you practiced loving your job? What if you became Super Employee, going above and beyond the call of duty each day for 30 days? And most important of all, what if you did this with a smile?

I'm serious. Pretend for 30 days that you love your job. Pretend that it is the end all and be all of careers for you. Pretend that there is no stress and that every act, every moment, is profoundly fulfilling. What would happen?

What would happen if at the end of your 30 days you tried it with another part of your life? What if you were the best, happiest, most loving husband? or father? or friend?

And if it works, what might that be worth to you?

Make a great day (or month).

Dr Dennis Waitley on MLM

I've spent much of my thirty-year career studying champions in every field from Apollo Astronauts to Superbowl and Olympic athletes; from Fortune 500 top executives to small business owners. As I travel throughout the world, lecturing on "The Psychology of Winning" and how to become a 21st Century leader to multi-national corporations and entrepreneurs, many of these individuals learn of my involvement as a board member of a publicly-traded network marketing company. Some are surprised; some impressed. Recently, however, their questions have changed. Many of these achievers are sensing the opportunity and they're asking what I think of the future of network marketing.

My answer is simple and straightforward.

Unless you are networking, you soon may be "not working." Network marketing is not just becoming mainstream, it's emerging today as the dominant market trend. It's a trend that can't be, won't be stopped.

The real question is how can you benefit?

Let's look at the trend itself.

At any given time there are several emerging trends in society. Some drive the next product or products that will be successful. For example, aging baby-boomers practically ensure the success of the health and wellness and financial services industries. Similarly, emerging technologies will continue to fuel product opportunities on-line and through telecom sectors. These trends, and others, are all relatively young and they're emerging together.

Although the elements of these trends have been around for years, the trends themselves emerge only when the timing is right... when several factors come together.

The health and wellness industry has been with us for centuries, but it took the convergence of aging baby-boomers with advancements in medical science to create the critical mass of an emerging trend. The telephone has been a primary mode of communication for over a century, but utilizing our phones to trade stocks, receive photographs, and surf the Internet, is a new market trend as a result of synergistic technologies.

The "networking" trend I have been witness to is not so obvious, and, as a result, many will miss its significance.

The opportunity it offers, however, could be
even greater than the two trends I just men-
tioned. Those "early adopters" and innovators
who catch it now will be rewarded handsomely.

The trend is a fundamental change in the way we conduct our business-in the way goods and services reach the consumer. Today, the consumer is increasingly "going direct"-purchasing goods and services based upon a direct relationship with the provider. The middle men-from wholesalers to retailers-are being bypassed.

Moreover, as the products we consume become more sophisticated and complex, consumers are demanding a quality relationship with the provider of these goods and services. They want to know what they are consuming. They want speed, variety, customization and choice. They want the products to deliver what the advertising promises.

Educated consumers going direct is a fundamentally different concept from the way we have done business in the past. But look again. Educated consumers going direct is the essence of network marketing. More importantly, it's the natural thrust of today's market economy. Why? Let's explore three major reasons: (More to come from the good Dr. Much more...)

It's time...for Network Marketing
the most remarkable form of free–enterprise ever created.

Dennis Waitley

Waitley was born in 1933. His father was an alcoholic and his parents divorced early on, but his grandmother provided inspiration. He won a scholarship to the US Naval Academy and flew carrier jets during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy he became the fundraiser and PR person for Jonas Salk (developer of the polio vaccine) and his Institute for Biological Studies. Salk introduced Waitley to Abraham Maslow, Victor Frankl and Carl Rogers, and persuaded him to pursue further studies.

At La Jolla University, Waitley wrote a doctoral thesis on the experiences of prisoners of war in Korea and Vietnam, which helped him to design seminars for NASA astronauts. Back at the Salk Institute the author met the inspirational speaker Earl Nightingale, who with Norman Vincent Peale, became his mentor.

During the 1980s, Waitley was the psychology guru to the US Olympic team, and has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies. His other classic, The Psychology of Winning, has been the bestselling personal development audio-tape of the last two decades, producing the spin-offs The Psychology of Winning as a Woman (with his daughters) and The Psychology of Winning for the 21st century. Other books include The Seeds of Greatness and The New Dynamics of Winning.

The author lives with wife Susan and seven children in California.

Empires of the Mind (1995) Denis Waitley

In a world in which people anywhere can communicate and do business with people anywhere else, it is not the nation but the individual that is becoming the focus of our questions about wealth and poverty. Future tomes may have to explain why one person creates great value, inspiring and energising their community, while with access to similar or even greater resources, another becomes a TV-watching wage slave who will risk nothing.

Empires of the Mind may just inspire you enough to avoid the latter fate. A great example of how the lines between personal development and business literature are blurring, Denis Waitley's book is a blueprint on how an individual might approach their life within a supercharged, irrational and ceaselessly changing 21st century economic world. Where once we saw change as punctuating time, now we see it as the nature of life itself, and in its wake lie the notions of solidity, status and security that characterised the world of our parents. It is up to us, not institutions or family, to lead ourselves.

Waitley says we will be lost if we do not cultivate four things: knowledge, openness, integrity and vision. The new world does not revolve around institutions, organisations or set patterns, but knowledge, therefore those who live in a continual state of learning will not only prosper from it but enjoy it the most. Openness to new ideas is a must; any prejudice or outworn assumptions will be an invisible roadblock keeping us from entering the territory where dreams happen. Real, lasting success in work/business life will come from personal integrity; do I 'walk my talk?' Finally, we must to some extent live life backwards, the substance of our days and our relationships lit up by a unique vision of the future.

Towards the book's end, Waitley quotes the famous first line of Dickens' Tale of Two Cities: 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.' Despite our relative prosperity and personal safety compared to Dickens' era, the fear of bad things stalks us. We live in an epoch of unparalleled opportunities for personal growth and success, but that very fact seems to make us choose a narrow path with limited responsibility. Yet the act of taking responsibility for who we want to be and where we want to go - this is real freedom.

In a globalised, knowledge-based economy, we must see ourselves as individual business units, rather than employees - even if we are working within a firm. We must embrace what the Japanese call kaizen, or continuous improvement - of the self. Yet we are not simply the sum of our work and financial status at any one time. Continuous self-improvement gives us the larger perspective, inner security and depth that make us truly valuable to the world over a sustained period.

Popular with teen readers

Popular with teen readers, the series sparked several sequels as well as the related titles Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soul: Stories of Faith, Love, Inspiration, and Hope and Chicken Soup for the Girl's Soul. Commenting on Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soul, John Green noted in Booklist that the book contains a "familiar mix of the inspirational, the sad but heartwarming, and the sweetly funny." Divided into sections that include "On Faith," "On Gratitude," and "On Loss and Grieving," the book contains "an emphasis on God working in surprising ways," according to Green.

Since the first Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul book was published in 1997, Canfield has receive up to one hundred letters a day, many expressing thanks and some containing stories from teens relating how the book helped them improve their own lives. In response, Canfield joined co-compilers Hansen and Kimberly Kirberger to create Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: Letters of Life, Love, and Learning. A teen with a fatal disease and a teacher in a juvenile detention facility are just two of the correspondents whose stories "often wind up as a tool for sharing experiences," noted a Publishers Weekly reviewer.

Canfield, a former high-school history teacher, began collecting and publishing self-esteem materials for school students, and his first published book was One Hundred Ways to Enhance Self-Concept in the Classroom. "Three books later, I started to give motivational talks to schools and to corporations," he once explained. "One day an audience member said, 'You have the best stories I have ever heard anywhere. Have you ever thought of putting them in a book?' With that prompting, I began to write down the stories that, three years later, with the help of Mark Victor Hansen, became Chicken Soup for the Soul. Although the first "Chicken Soup" book was rejected by over forty publishers, fourteen months after it was published by Health Communications it made the New York Times bestseller list, and stayed there over two years. The "Chicken Soup" books have since been translated into twenty-three languages.

"What motivates us to continue to work so hard compiling, editing, and writing these books are the thousands of letters I receive that describe the powerful impact the books have had on so many lives, including prisoners, students, teachers, managers, parents, cancer survivors, and numerous others," Canfield added. He and Hansen donate a portion of all sales to charities, including Soup Kitchens for the Soul, which places inspirational literature in prisons and jails. As Canfield explained to Dennis Hughes in an interview for Shareguide.com, "My life's mission is to inspire and empower [people] to live their highest vision in the context of love and joy."

First book in the popular series

The first book in the popular series, Chicken Soup for the Soul: One Hundred and One Stories to Open the Heart and Rekindle the Spirit, sparked what Time reviewer Andrew Ferguson dubbed "the publishing phenomenon" of the 1990s. Noting the coauthors' background as motivational speakers, Ferguson added that in the series, "the tone is unvarying: earnest, unadorned and ruthlessly uplifting." "Chicken Soup" titles have been directed at gardeners, nurses, teachers, military veterans, pet lovers, and people from a variety of religious faiths.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul contains inspirational anecdotes and poems from everyday teens along with cartoons and contributions from well-known figures such as Helen Keller and poet Sandra Cisneros. The brief stories recount family problems, peer-group issues, and personal-growth tales. Booklist critic Stephanie Zvirin commended the mix of well-known adults writing about their teen years and ordinary adolescents using "plainspoken" language, as she put it. Zvirin predicted that the work will resonate with its intended readership "because it proves that there is, indeed, some light at the proverbial end of the tunnel."

How to Thrive Through This Recession, Jack Canfield Style

We're hearing a lot about the economy lately. In fact, just this week, Alan Greenspan actually said "the r word" by announcing that the United States is in a recession. Our last recession, from 2001-2003, was due to the collapse of the dot-com bubble, the September 11th attacks, and accounting scandals such as Enron. There were also recessions in the early 1990s and early 1980s.

In fact, for the last 30 years, the U.S. has gone through a recession once every decade. There's no indication that this will change in the future. Burying your head in the sand will certainly spell disaster for your business. Gritting your teeth to weather the storm will only increase your blood pressure and keep you up at night.

The good news is that a recession is not a depression. It's unlikely that we will ever go through something like the Great Depression again. However, it's quite possible that this will not be our last recession. To be successful, you need to become informed about what a recession is and what steps you can take to thrive in the midst of one.

What is a Recession, and What Can You Do about it?

A recession is a period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced. It is identified by a decline in a country's gross domestic product (GDP), or negative economic growth, for two or more successive quarters. In short, a recession means a steady, prolonged decline in sales.

As a small business owner, you've experienced a decline in sales before. It's a normal part of any sales cycle. Question is: When you've had a drop in sales in the past, what did you do? Did you just wait, hoping for things to get better? Or, did you take decisive action to nip things in the bud and turn things around? If you are a successful small business owner ' someone intent on creating a constant and steadily increasing cash flow ' then you know the importance of taking informed, resolute action.

Jack Canfield, too, knows about decisive action. He's famous for his rags-to-riches story of how he committed to contacting five people a day to promote his book, Chicken Soup for the Soul. The key to his success was his commitment to action. Not just any old action, mind you. Aligned, well-thought-out, purposeful action. Jack knew he had a monumental task in front of him: promoting an unknown book by an unknown author. Each day he took action to increase name recognition, forge connections, and build sales.

Five Simple Steps for Thriving through a Recession, Jack Canfield Style

1. Get back to basics

Recessions are good for all things that begin with "re." Re-group, re-organize, re-view. Revisit the fundamentals that have already made your business a success. Revise your mission statement to stand for what your business is really all about. Reject rejection. Practice Jack's "Rule of Five": Every day, do five things that will move you toward your goal.

2. Clean up your act

Recessions are a great time, Jack advises, to clean up your messes. Now, when sales are slow, finish anything that is incomplete. De-clutter your office and organize your files. Make phone calls to bridge any disconnects that may have occurred between you and your customers. Magnify your success energy by focusing on what you want to happen, not what you are experiencing.

3. Focus on your connections and relationships

Recessions are the perfect time to forge new connections and strengthen long-standing relationships. Practice uncommon appreciation. Review your agreements with clients and confirm your commitment to them. Speak first and with integrity. Be impeccable in your communication. Meet for breakfast instead of over the phone. Supplement emails with handwritten cards and notes.

4. Be smart with your money

Recessions are the natural time for small business owners to review their financials. Take a look at your cash flow. Collect on any outstanding accounts. Don't fall into lackful thinking by clutching and holding onto your money. Spend wisely. Make sure your bills are paid. Above all else, give more. Keep your energy flowing by finding a way to serve others.

5. Step back

Recessions are the ideal time to practice stepping back in order to keep things in perspective. Instead of energetically aligning with all the fears, doubts, and anxieties associated with a recession, step back and move to higher ground. Don't get caught up in others' panic. Soar above it all to a place where clarity can be gained and perspective maintained. While you're at it, take others with you. As Jack says, "When you lift up others, they will lift up you."

No one likes feeling uncertain about the future. Yet nothing is ever certain, whether or not we're in a recession! By taking decisive action now, you can positively influence your future. When this recession ends, don't let your company be one that just managed to survive. Practice Jack's Rule of Five and thrive.
